CIFNET 2020 Postponed, Apply by 3 July

Central Institute of Fisheries, Nautical and Engineering Training (CIFNET) offers a unique 4 year Bachelor of Fishery Science (Nautical Science) programme at its Kochi campus, the admission to which is through a Common Entrance Test, which has been postponed (was earlier scheduled to be conducted on 13 June 2020).Furthermore, the last date for application has also been extended.

Date of CIFNET entrance test : To be announced (was earlier scheduled for 13 Jun 2020)

About the course : The B.F.Sc.(N.S.) course offered by CIFNET is a 4 year (8 Semester) programme mainly concerned with study of fish capturing techniques, nautical science and operation of fishing vessels.  This programme has an exhaustive curriculum designed to provide profound practical knowledge on various aspects of the fishing and nautical sciences.  This Degree course is affiliated to CUSAT (Cochin University of Science and Technology), Kochi

This 4 year programme will be producing a new generation of experts in the fishing field who will be able to take up any challenges in the operation of fishing vessels and related research and academic spheres with confidence. 

The candidate who successfully pass this degree and the basic modular courses with required sea experience are exempted from all written papers and directly (without Post Sea courses) appear for the Mate Fishing Vessel oral examination leading to the issuance of Certificate of competency as Mate of a fishing vessel.

Candidates with PCM group will be directly eligible for GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress and Safety System) after BFSc(NS) degree. GMDSS is an internationally agreed-upon set of safety procedures, types of equipment, and communication protocols used to increase safety and make it easier to rescue distressed ships, boats and aircraft.

Selection criteria : Weightage of 50% for CIFNET entrance test and 50%  for qualifying exam result

NRI candidates need not come through entrance examination. Sponsorship by Non-resident India is only essential. If more candidates apply in this category, the selection will be on the basis of academic merit and performance in the interview

Foreign National candidates need Sponsorship of a foreign organisation. If more candidates apply in this category, the selection will be on the basis of academic merit.
